Thanksgiving Weekend Recap

Jeff and I went to Dothan last Wednesday night just in time for Thanksgiving. It was a long trip, as usual, but I LOVE the feeling I get when I arrive home for a visit...it gives me that warm, cozy feeling inside knowing that I get to spend the next 2, 3, or 4 days at home with momma. We got to Momma's house around 11:30 pm on Wednesday night and promptly went to sleep.

On Thursday morning, we went to visit my Grandmother; she had to be placed in the nursing home a few weeks ago, so we went to spend a little time with her on Thanksgiving day. Here's a picture:

After seeing my Grandmother for a little while, Jeff and I went back to Momma's and got ready to eat some of that good ol' Thanksgiving food! We ate with Kevin and his family and had a really enjoyable time. The food was delish, and of course, we ate WAAAY too much, but it was so good...how could you stop?!?!?

After eating until we could hardly sit or stand or do anything at all, Momma and Jeff went to bed at like 8:15 or some crazy time...I managed to stay up until around 9:30 or so.

Friday brought a new day, and one that did not include Black Friday shopping. I am not a shopper, and especially when everyone else in town is out trying to do the same thing. Instead, Momma and I went back to the nursing home to see my Grandmother. Friday was really hard for me...I didn't get upset while visiting my Grandmother on Thursday, but I was a mess on Friday. Here's another picture of her...she looked better on Friday than she did on Thursday.

After making the rounds to visit some of my mom's family, we went back to Dothan and met Carman and Shay for a little dinner. Shay had been shopping since like 4 am, so I'm sure she was tired. I always enjoy visiting with them, but our visits never seem long enough!!

Saturday morning, Momma and I went to Enterprise for a baby shower for the daughter-in-law of one of my mom's friends. Everyone was super nice and the food was fabulous...if you've not figured it out yet...I LOVE TO EAT!! :) Mrs. Panzy (Momma's friend who is the most talented person I know) had made homemade lasagna and a fresh green salad. Momma made a pound cake, and Mrs. Panzy had a 4 layered chocolate cake...YUMMY!

After stuffing our faces there, we went back to Dothan and just chilled out with Jeff and Kevin. We had awesome fajitas for dinner, and then Jeff and I hit the road to come back home. We left Dothan around 7:45 pm and got home around 2:45 am. It was again a long drive, but it was nice to be home, and it's nice to have today to do things around the house rather than sitting in all that traffic.

We had a fabulous Thanksgiving with one exception...Stephanie was not able to be with us because she only had one day off work. She was able to spend Thanksgiving day with her friends Megan and Ashley, and for that I'm thankful. It didn't take away the fact that we missed her dearly, but at least she didn't have to spend the day alone.

I hope all of you out there also had a great Thanksgiving. We are so blessed and have much to be thankful for.

Until next time...

Just Call Me Susie...

...Susie Homemaker that is!! LOL!

I have successfully made my very first pound cake...it's so pretty!! LOOK...

I made the pound cake for a dessert auction at Church tomorrow night to help the Women's ministry raise money for their annual retreat. This is our first time participating in the annual Thanksgiving meal and dessert auction, so I'm really excited.

Fun with Paint

Jeff and I are in the process of painting our new condo. Our first task was to get the kitchen painted. In our other condo, we did this really nice faux paint design in the kitchen; it looks really good, so we decided to do try it in the new condo. However, the walls are slightly textured, so the idea of faux painting didn't work out so well. The bad part of that is that we didn't realize it until we (Jeff) had painted two coats of the base coat. He literally stayed up until 2:00 am one morning trying to get the base coat on the walls in the kitchen.

To make a long story short, he had to repaint the walls white before we could continue with a different color. So, needless to say, the kitchen walls have about 6 coats of paint on them.

Two pics from the kitchen:

After the kitchen fiasco, we took a break from painting. Jeff has now started painting the living room and dining area. He is such a little handy painter and quite crafty. Here's a picture of his artwork that was designed especially for me.

Anyway, we are having a lot of fun getting this new place decorated. Our other condo is rented, and I pray that we continue to be as blessed as we have been so far!

Happy Thursday!!

French Lesson

If I didn't have such a strong Southern accent and could be assured that I'd speak like her, I'd learn to speak French.

How cute is this little girl!!!

TGIF

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

I'm so glad it's Friday!! It's been a tough week at work because of layoffs in the company. I'm thankful that I wasn't laid off, but I do pray for those that were. I'm excited that we don't have anything planned for this weekend except working around the house. Sound's like fun, huh!! :)

So, I have a question for the few of you that read this blog...what are some dinner ideas that you use for nights when you get home late (like after 6:30) and still need to cook dinner? I feel like I've been a slacker because I've not cooked dinner much lately. We've grabbed take out or something similar, but I've not actually been in the kitchen cooking (or at least I don't feel like I have). I need some ideas of things that are not to labor intensive or take forever to prepare...these are the days of simplicity people.

I'm looking forward to some comments about dinner ideas, so don't disappoint!!

Enjoy the weekend!!

Weekend Fun

So, Jennifer and Ray arrived in town on Thursday night. They went to Daytona Beach on Friday, and on Saturday, we met up with our friends Liz, Craig, Brett and Kelly for the UCF football game. The game wasn't great, but we had a good time with good friends. On Sunday, Ray, Jennifer, Jeff and I watched several NFL games...they're huge Green Bay Packers fans, so we had to make sure they were able to catch the game.

We had a really good weekend; I always enjoy having company and entertaining.

Company's Coming

I'm super excited to have my friends Jennifer and Ray from Milwaukee coming into town tonight. They're here until Sunday, and we're going to have a fun weekend. They are going to the beach tomorrow...a little chilly for me at the beach, but where they're from, this is ideal weather for the beach.

We're going to the UCF football game on Saturday which is always fun because we have such awesome friends!!

I'll have some pictures to post after the weekend.

Enjoy the weekend!!

Hello World!!

Hey There!
So, it's official...I'm a blogger!! I love reading other blogs, so I hope you will enjoy mine.

Anyway, I can't guarantee that I'll post everyday, but I'll do my best for those of you that are interested.

Here's a picture of Jeff and I from Halloween. I was an Eskimo, but it wasn't really cold enough for that. Oh well, it was a fun night being with friends!!
